Competition from England & Spain
RB Leipzig has apparently become aware of Josip Sutalo from Dinamo Zagreb while looking for new defences. As Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported, the “Red Bulls” are showing interest in the 22-year-old central defender from the 23-time Croatian champion. However, the Saxons should not be the only applicant for the right foot. Accordingly, more than three unnamed clubs, including clubs from England and Spain, are in the running.
A quick future decision is not expected, Sutalo’s representatives are to hold further talks with possible future employers in the coming months. In Zagreb, the three-time A-national player of Croatia is still tied in the long term until 2028. A few weeks ago, the Croatian tabloid “24 sata” linked the defender with the Leipzigers and brought into play a transfer fee of 18 million euros plus 7 million euros in bonuses and a resale participation.
RBL have had good experiences with new signings from Dinamo Zagreb in the past. At the beginning of 2020, Dani Olmo (24) was signed for 29 million euros, followed in 2021 by Josko Gvardiol (20) for 18.8 million euros. Both are among the four most expensive sales in Dinamo club history. Sutalo was the top winner in the 1st HNL in the last market value update, advancing to the front positions. The centre-back posted the biggest gain of €3m, rising to his career high of €8m, surpassed by only three players in the league – all of whom are at Zagreb.
