Josep Borrell: “The whole world is in danger”

The high representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs, Joseph Borrellassured this Saturday that the intention of Russia with the conflict in Ukraine is to turn it into “a second syria“while warning that”the whole world is in danger“.

“If a strong country can impose force on a neighbor that does not threaten it, all it wants, committing war crimes as it is doing, destroying a country, making Mariupol the ‘European Aleppo’ and making Ukraine a second Syria, then the whole world is in danger,” he assured at the inauguration of the Doha Forum.

The high representative stressed during the ‘Transforming for a new era’ session that the conflict “is a problem at the borders of Europebut it is not a European problem” but a world problem, which requires “strengthening legislation at an international level and a better balance of power”.

Borrell, who is traveling this weekend to Qatar and Kuwait to address bilateral relations, international cooperation and global security after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, wanted to highlight that “one of the bad consequences that this conflict can bring is that of push russia into china and create a divide between what we can call the global southeast and the global northwest.”

Imbalance

In this sense, he warned of the danger of this possibility, which in his opinion could “create an incredible imbalance in the world.” “We have to avoid this trend and the first thing we have to do is stop this war of aggression, of attrition,” he added.
