José Luis Gioja accused Sergio Uñac of “turning around like a sock”

The national deputy and former governor of San Juan, Jose Luis Giojaaccused the governor of San Juan, Sergio Unac of “turning around like a stocking”, after Uñac refused to sign the request for impeachment against the president of the Supreme Court, Horace Rosatti, promoted by the government. “Governor @sergiounac of San Juan once again turns around like a stocking. He spent days complaining about the Justice for the funds that we San Juan residents are going to lose. Today, he did not sign the request for impeachment against the head of the Court. Everything is because of his new candidacy ”, Gioja shot on his Twitter account. And it is that Gioja and those who oppose Uñac assure that behind the refusal of the San Juan governor to support the request are his ambitions to compete in the upcoming elections to be re-elected.

The conflict began in December 2022, when Uñac announced his candidacy to be re-elected as governor in 2023. Immediately, Gioja, leader of the space Justicialist Loyaltyinterpreted this act almost as a betrayal, maintaining that Uñac cannot be a candidate for governor or vice, since according to provincial laws a candidate can be re-elected up to two times.

The reason why both the Gioja space and the opposition disapprove of the possibility is that they count him for three terms: Uñac was lieutenant governor in the period 2011-2015governor in the 2015-2019 and re-elected for the period 2019-2023. The controversy lies in the fact that, according to the position against, having been José Luis Gioja’s running mate in 2011, this would end his chances of being re-elected. On this, Uñac has declared that “the people of San Juan will determine who they want to govern.”

Those who question Uñac’s attempt, assure that his refusal to sign the request for Rosatti’s trial is due to the fact that he seeks to avoid a conflict with the court that, if the opposition advances in its attempt to prevent his candidacy, will be the one who must decide regarding the possible re-election. In order not to irritate the judges, Uñac would have chosen not to sign.

This thesis is based on Uñac’s position on the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justicefavorable to Buenos aires city in sharing the co-participation. According to what Gioja denounces, Uñac had been categorically against the Court’s ruling, and went so far as to affirm that one of his main motivations for being re-elected was “the defense that we have to carry before the things of the people of San Juan” , in the face of “the different situations at the national level that threaten the construction of a serious federalism.” But despite his position, Uñac decided not to sign the trial request against Rosatti.
