Soumaya Sahla, who was sentenced to three years in prison in 2014 for membership of a terrorist organization and after her release studied and rose to become an advisor to the VVD, is in the news again. She was expelled by the right-wing party on Monday because she allegedly ‘stealed’ money from the very elderly and sick former VVD leader Frits Bolkestein.

Love relationship

It seems according to weekly magazine Privately note that Soumaya also has a love affair with VVD sympathizer Jort Kelder. Two weeks ago she was a guest on his radio program Dr. Kelder and Co and last week they went together to the book presentation of ‘You are young and you want some future’.

Jort and Soumaya were very intimate there, Privé knows. “They were spotted very intimately. He and Soumaya appeared hand in hand at the book presentation. Those present thought they saw more than just friendship and Jort does not deny that he gets along well with her,” the gossip magazine writes.

Jort denies

Jort does deny that he is in bed with Soumaya. “You have eyes on stalks, but I didn’t feel that hand. Soumaya is a good friend. I will never joke about it if I am seen with a teacher, and even if I am close, but that does not necessarily mean that I am in a relationship. I also live far too cramped for that.”

There is no room for a woman in Jort’s houses anymore, he claims. “I have a beautiful house on Terschelling and an equally beautiful loft in Amsterdam, but I had all the bathrooms and the kitchen removed and thus reduced it to an ideal bachelor’s degree. So for the time being there is no vacancy for the new Mrs. K.”

Angry at Wilders

Anyway: Jort is at least good friends with Soumaya and that is striking. She is detested by critics such as Geert Wilders, who find it bizarre that the VVD has become involved with a convicted ex-Muslim terrorist. “Types like Wilders should stop scoring cheaply against her,” says Jort, however.

He continues: “Wilders is not aware of my dissatisfaction, but here it is. His personal attack on Soumaya is electoral, while he knows how it works. This is a bit cheap. This is a lady with a colorful CV who has worked her way up to an academic and exemplary citizen of a liberal democracy.”
