Jorinde van Klinken from Assen wins the prestigious Diamond League match in Olso with the discus and beats American Olympic champion Valarie Allman

The Asser athlete Jorinde van Klinken has won a competition during the prestigious Diamond League in the discus throw for the first time.

The 23-year-old from Drenthe reached a distance of 66.77 meters on her fifth attempt. In what was only her second Diamond League game, she threw 59 centimeters further than American Olympic champion Valarie Allman. The Croatian Sandra Perkovic (65.26) was third.

Van Klinken, who is affiliated with Groningen Athletics, won bronze in the shot put at the European Championships in Munich last year. The Volendam Jessica Schilder then took the gold.

Van Klinken made his debut two weeks ago at the Diamond League in Florence. Then she finished sixth with a distance of 62 meters and 13 centimeters. With 70.22 meters she is the Dutch record holder. The Drenthe extended her discus title in the strong American student competition this season. She came in second with the bullet.
