The iconic feature film Nouvelle Vaguedirected by Jean-Luc Godardis a Borgesian story of a dystopian present dominated by black and white and experimental montage, based on the poem from the essay “New refutation of time”.
In a scene from the movie Performance In 1970, a bullet is fired into Jagger’s face, revealing a portrait of Borges, against which the projectile also collides and ends up breaking into pieces. Umberto Eco pays tribute to the writer in the best seller “The name of the rose“, just like the film of the same name by director Jean Jacques Annaud made by Sean Connery Y Christian Slater, in which visual references are also present. The character of Jorge de Burgos, a blind monk from the abbey, is the guardian of the library, and the one who ensures that everyone remains silent in that sacred place. The same Italian author confirmed that the character is inspired by the Argentine writer.
There is only one film that puts Borges as the protagonist: love and fear. the tape of Juan Carlos Desanzomade by miguel angel sologives an account of the life of the writer in the government of Juan Domingo Peron. The film includes as part of the plot several stories and characters of Borges, with a story that seeks to delve into the author’s psyche, from where the idea of moral and ideological subjugation that he felt before the Peronist regime is exposed.
