“After what I’ve been through over the past few years, I’ve come to the conclusion that my personal beliefs and the values my father instilled in me, and which I’ve tried hard to hold on to throughout my life, are not in line with the approaches, trends and modern methods of our institution,” Prince Hamzah wrote in the statement, written in Arabic, according to several foreign media.
He adds that he has “no choice” but to give up the title of prince.
Hamzah, King Abdullah’s half-brother, was discredited last year when he was accused of conspiracy and plotting a coup. He was then placed under house arrest and banned from communicating with the outside world.
Not much later, the court released a letter in which Hamzah denied involvement and said he was loyal to country and family.
