Stage Entertainment is “deeply saddened” by the death of Tina Turner. “We honor her love, respect and goodness,” the musical producer said in a statement.
Stage Entertainment produced together with Joop van den Ende and in close collaboration with Tina Turner TINA – the Tina Turner musical. That production was shown on the West End in London, Broadway in New York and in Hamburg before the show had its Dutch premiere in Utrecht in 2020, with Nyassa Alberta as Turner. After Madrid (2021), the production returned to the Beatrix Theater last year.
Joop van den Ende is currently not staying in the Netherlands and was unable to respond for practical reasons on Wednesday evening. According to a spokesman, who had brief contact with the producer, Van den Ende is ‘extremely sad’ by the news. He maintained a personal relationship with the superstar, who personally presented him with an oeuvre award at the Musical Awards in early 2016. During Tina’s development, Turner and her husband dined at the Van den Endes’ home. At the time, Janine van den Ende spoke of a ‘cozy get-together’.
