Jonk and Murkin proud despite defeat: “Ajax shaken”

Despite the 2-4 defeat against Ajax, FC Volendam left the field with their head held high today. Wim Jonk’s team was allowed to smell a stunt against the reigning national champion. “In the dressing room there was a feeling that there could have been more.”

After the game, Jonk was proud of the intensity and guts that his team put on the mat against Ajax. “Participating well is still too poorly lit. We offered a good match and were even dominant in phases. But you also have to be rewarded a bit. We made Ajax waver,” Jonk says after the match.

“You have to be 101 percent sharp against Ajax, otherwise it will be 10-0”

FC VOLendam player Derry John Murkin

Left back Derry John Murkin thought that FC Volendam showed its best side. “I think we can make it difficult for any team, as long as we keep playing football. We have to keep that energy alive. We have to extend this to the next game.”

Proud of Volendam

Despite another defeat, there was a sense of pride among the players and Jonk afterwards. The trainer also enjoyed the sold-out stadium and the atmosphere. “People should be proud of the club again. We are now in a difficult place in the ranking, but we have also shown that with a little luck we might have had five or six points more.”
