FC Volendam today won the hugely important Eredivisie match against SC Cambuur 3-0. Thanks to the victory, Wim Jonk’s team is no longer last in the standings and it is off to a good start with the resumption of the premier league. “There was a lot of pressure from both sides.”
FC Volendam started the game in a 5-2-3 formation. Jonk’s new conception of the game therefore immediately resulted in the full spoils. “This gives faith. Whatever system we play, it’s about how you fill it in. But I have to say that we did it very disciplined today,” said Jonk.
“It is wonderful to give an interview here when you have won 3-0”
“On the ball today we showed the guts to play forward at the right moments”, Jonk continues. “That’s how you score two fantastic goals in the opening phase and maybe we could have scored more at the end.”

FC Volendam captain Carel Eiting enjoyed the discipline within the team. “It’s great to give an interview here when you won 3-0. There was a constant focus, a constant sharpness. Maybe those two early goals will help make it easier. There were definitely moments when we felt that it was good. We only won once, but we can certainly draw hope from this,” said Eiting after the game.
On Wednesday, FC Volendam will play again in Friesland. Heerenveen is then the opponent in the second round of the KNVB Cup. The kick-off is at 8 p.m. NH Sport reports live on the game via NH Radio.
