Jonk after disastrous first half FC Volendam: “Walked into Excelsior’s knife”

FC Volendam received a brutal beating from competitor Excelsior tonight at home. In Volendam it became 2-5 for the Rotterdammers and so everyone in the fishing village was depressed. Trainer Wim Jonk saw his team start the match disastrously and in the second half it turned out that the damage could no longer be repaired. “We still got them to falter.”

Like his trainer, captain Damon Mirani couldn’t put his finger on the sore spot for the first division leader’s dramatic start. Mirani thought it might be because of the tension that comes with such important matches. De Monnickendammer also stood up for his teammate Mike Eerdhuijzen, who made a flashy mistake a number of times.

New contract

Just before kick-off, commercial director Jan Smit announced that FC Volendam and trainer Wim Jonk are close to a contract extension. According to Jonk, however, Smit has spoken out and the negotiations are still in full swing.
