Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell once again opens the doors to her music vault. With “Archives, Vol. 3: The Asylum Years (1972-1975)” we will hear new alternative versions, demos and other rarities. There will also be some previously unreleased live recordings on the compilation.
The third release in the “Archives” series covers Mitchell’s creative work from the early 1970s. During this period, the albums For the Roses (1972), Court and Spark (1974) and The Hissing of Summer Lawns (1975) fell. And it is precisely from these three records that the Canadian now shares the previously unreleased material that documents her working process during the recordings. In “Vol. 1” she reviewed the years 1963 to 1967, in “Vol. 2” from 1968 to ’71, when Mitchell was signed to Reprice Records.
Archives, Vol. 3 will also include an exclusive live recording of Joni Mitchell’s concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Well-known names of the folk scene attended as guests, such as James Taylor, Graham Nash and their compatriot Neil Young. The latter also recently scoured his archives to share a long-lost album with the world. Incidentally, Joni Mitchell’s last concert was in June 2023, where she headlined for the first time in 20 years.
“Archives, Vol. 3: The Asylum Years (1972-1975)” by Joni Mitchell will be available October 6th.
