Jonas Hofmann back in training

Jonas Hofmann returned to training with Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach three weeks before the German national team’s first game at the World Cup in Qatar.

The 30-year-old, who plays a central role in national coach Hansi Flick’s World Cup plans, completed the entire training session with the team on Wednesday.

Hofmann suffered an acromioclavicular joint rupture in the DFB Cup on October 18 without involving any bones.

“It was a good unit for him because it didn’t involve as many duels. In the early phase, in which we had duels in positional play, we had him with us as a majority player to take him out a bit,” said Gladbach coach Daniel Farke: “It looked good. If that goes well in the final training session, then it will definitely be a topic for the squad at the weekend.”

On Friday (8:30 p.m. / DAZN) Gladbach will face VfB Stuttgart. Without Hofmann, Borussia recently lost to Eintracht Frankfurt (1:3) and to leaders Union Berlin (1:2).

At the World Cup, Germany will play its first game against Japan on November 23rd. Flick will nominate his squad on November 10th.
