Jokerit has played five home games with their new Mestis team so far. The team plays part of its home games in Kerava and part in the Helsinki Ice Hall.
The average viewership for home games is a respectable 3,699 viewers at this point.
That figure will rise, as Jokerit has been able to negotiate two additional games for Nordis. The team will play a hockey game on Friday, February 2, and a Hermes game the following evening in Helsinki’s old ice rink on Nordenskiöldinkatu.
– In all limited companies, including ours, the economy determines things. Kerava has a capacity of 1,240 and Nordis has 8,200. It is much more profitable for us to play in Helsinki. In addition, we have good game days there, the ancillary services are good and the atmosphere is great, says Jokerie’s CEO Antti-Jussi Niemi.
– Everything has also worked very well at Kerava, Niemi adds.
According to the preliminary plan, the team had to play 11 regular season home games at the Nordis. Now that number is 13.
– We intend to play all playoff games in the spring in the Helsinki Ice Hall, Niemi adds.

The Helsinki Ice Hall is considered “HIFK’s hall”, and it has long been the home arena of the red team. However, the arena is owned by the city of Helsinki, more precisely the Ice Foundation.
– Provision has been made for this. We strive to enable the Jokers to play all possible home games at the Helsinki Ice Hall. It is actually our duty. The cooperation with the Jokers has gone well, states the CEO of the Ice Foundation Tom Kivimäki.
The Jokerit will face TuTo in the Helsinki ice hall on Tuesday. Already in the morning, well over 6,000 tickets for the match have been sold.
HIFK’s next home game is against HPK on Thursday.
