Blinded by her anger, Jojo blames Elsa for her mother’s death and decides to kill her. He tries to stab her, but bursts into desperate tears and is consoled by her potential victim.

These are hard days, but freedom is getting closer. The news of Hitler’s suicide arrives and Fräulein Rahm, before being killed, gives him the jacket of the German uniform. Russian soldiers capture him and Klenzendorf, who takes the opportunity to confess that he is sorry for Rosie’s death. The boy risks his life and it is the captain who saves him, taking off his jacket and advising him to run away. He flees home, where he finds Elsa, who announces that the war is finally over.
