As is well known, Johnny Depp emerged from the defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard as the winner in the broad public eye. This not only affected his reputation, but also the value of the film props he used: In the fantasy tragicomedy “Edward Scissorhands” from 1990, he mimed the protagonist of the title – an artificially created human which is not quite finished when its inventor dies. Instead of hands, it is equipped with a complicated scissors construction.
Double the estimate
Those scissor hands have now fetched a staggering $81,250 at auction – almost double what experts had predicted. At the time the sale was announced in May, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were in court. At that time, a maximum bid of between 30,000 and 50,000 US dollars was expected. The auction was conducted by Propstore. The auction house is known for auctioning off collectibles from films worth millions.
Volleyball Wilson also brought in a six-figure sum
Johnny Depp’s motorcycle from “Cry Baby” is also set to go under the hammer soon. In the comedy he embodied a rebellious rock ‘n’ roller in the 1950s. For that prop, the starting bid is a whopping $250,000. In the recent past, there have always been sensational auctions: For example, Tom Hanks’ volleyball Wilson from “Castaway” changed hands for an astronomical 187,500 US dollars.
