Johnny de Mol quiz is not a hit: ‘These are Gordon-like ratings’

According to television connoisseurs, the new Johnny de Mol show De Kwis met Ballen is not exactly a resounding success. “Unfortunately, he puts down Gordon-like ratings on SBS 6,” it sounds.

Johnny de Mol takes a step back on the television ladder. After the talk show HLF8, he now ventures into a relatively simple quiz, in which candidates who give an incorrect answer are pushed into the water. It’s all not much, just like the viewing figures: the premiere attracted 385 thousand viewers (13 percent market share) to SBS 6 last night.

Gordon-like numbers

The viewing figures of De Kwis met Ballen do not impress. Until last week, the Gordon show Wat Een Invention was shown at the same time and this does not score much better. “It has almost the same numbers as Wat Een Invention, which attracted an average of only 374 thousand viewers on that time slot in recent weeks,” say viewing figure connoisseur Joost Maiburg.

However, Johnny managed to fascinate slightly more viewers than the simultaneously broadcast RTL 4 show Best Viewers, which amounted to 377 thousand viewers (13 percent). “In terms of market shares, RTL 4 scored slightly higher than SBS 6 at half past nine: 16.8 percent versus 13.8 percent,” said Joost, pointing to the important target group figures.

AAA campaign

Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, finds it a bit disappointing. She writes: “Unfortunately Gordon-like figures and that too after a very large AAA promotional campaign. Johnny DOES score higher than both Het Jachtseason before and competitor Ruben Nicolai with Best Viewers on RTL 4.”

So what’s the conclusion? “De Kwis met Ballen is after Ik Vertrek and Nieuwsuur the number three from 9.30 pm and not a very big flop, but certainly not a hit.”

Op1 on two

The inserted Op1 broadcast about the mutiny in Russia captivated no less than 861 thousand viewers (36 percent) late in the evening, good for second place in the top 15 viewing figure.

Tina: “These figures show how important a late-night talk show is for NPO. Viewers flock to it en masse for big news. As Raymond Mens noted yesterday: the commercial news channel RTLZ broadcast series such as Bar Rescue and Gordon Ramsay all day yesterday. Foreign.”
