Johnny de Mol makes way for Shownieuws: ‘End of career?’

Johnny de Mol still has a good month to go with his talk show HLF8. It will then be followed by a summer edition of Shownieuws. “It’s just the end of his career for him, isn’t it?”

It seems that Johnny de Mol will just sit out the remaining five full broadcasting weeks of HLF8 despite all the criticism. Since the legal battle with his ex-fiancée Shima Kaes could go on for a very long time, it will probably be announced in the summer that HLF8 will not return for a second season due to low viewing figures.

End of career?

By throwing it at low ratings, Johnny prevents loss of face. However, BNR presenter Jelle Maasbach expects it to be over for the SBS 6 star. He has read Shima Kaes’s declaration and was shocked. “You really see the most bizarre details. There have also been witnesses to it,” he says in the podcast Content Wars

Format developer Kirsten Jan van Nieuwenhuijzen then: “If you read what happened… Even if only a small part of it happened, you can ask yourself: will that save you? Even despite the fact that your father has a transmitter and you have a good name in Hilversum.”

Jelle: “Yes, it seems to me when you read this: end of career, but yes…”

Show news

HLF8 will be followed on Monday 30 May by a ‘summer edition’ of Shownieuws. The show section has experimented with early editions in the past, but they were never really successful. Apparently SBS 6 is betting that Shownieuws could work in this time, in which there is a lot of gossip.

If Shownieuws succeeds in attracting enough viewers, it could of course just be that SBS 6 chooses to definitively use this early edition as a replacement for HLF8. A program of which you can broadcast all items again in the evening in the late edition is of course cheaper to make than a talk show.

In shock

It would of course be painful for Johnny, because he would have liked to continue with HLF8 for years to come. Kirsten Jan, however, thinks that’s not going to happen. “Shima Kaes was first dismissed as an angry ex, but now it seems to be a bit more serious,” he analyzes.

Kirsten Jan: “I did work with Johnny in the past, a while ago, and a lot of people are always very positive about Johnny. A nice guy, a hard worker, so for a lot of people in Hilversum, I know, this is quite a shock. Nobody expected this to happen.”

Drink and drugs

It is a shame that Johnny has been so involved in alcohol and drugs, Jelle concludes. “Yeah, I think it’s tough too. I didn’t expect it actually. You see some drink and drugs, because that seems to be the underlying reason, can destroy everything.”
