De Mol made his statements after a conversation with some studio guests who had driven to Ukraine to pick up refugees. When asked whether De Mol himself would also receive refugees, he replied: “Yes, that appeals to me, certainly. I have done this in the past after Lesvos in 2015 and I would do it again.”
Doing nothing is actually not an option, according to the presenter. “I actually think it’s a bit like this: if you’re able to do something good for someone else and you leave it behind, you’re really just an incredible asshole.”
De Mol was active on the Greek island of Lesbos for years to receive boat refugees with his organization Movement on the Ground.
