Anyone in Vorstenbosch who wants a bag of chips or a bottle of soda will have to go to a supermarket outside the village. The only supermarket in the village closes on Saturday. After more than eleven years, the owners Johnnie and Mieke van der Heijden stop. “That’s very disappointing,” says Mieke.
“Today is our last day and after that there will be no more Dagwinkel in Vorstenbosch. The building will then be empty and there will be no follow-up at the moment. The people from the village will therefore have to go to another supermarket in the area for the time being.” says Mike. The staff shortage and the many price increases also play a role, the owners say TV News.
“We’ve been working towards this day for months.”
The two owners worked their last days with a ‘double feeling’. “Some regular customers say goodbye personally in the store, with a card or a present. We have worked very hard for this, but this is the only right choice. We have been working towards this day for months, and it is nice that there is a view is coming to an end,” says the co-owner of the store.
“We chose the family.”
All in all, it was a difficult decision for the owner of the Dagwinkel. “We opted for the family, and no longer for the store. I put my heart and soul into it, ninety hours a week. That decision didn’t happen overnight, and it hurts a lot,” said Johnnie van der Heijden already know in March, when the closure was announced.
It is not yet known what will happen to the Dagwinkel building. “Whether there will be a small supermarket or, for example, a retail store again, that is up to the owner of the building and the possible new tenant,” concludes Van der Heijden.
“No new tenants have come forward yet.”
The owner of the building, Rens Verstegen, does not believe that a supermarket will return to the building on Kerkstraat. “No one is talking to anyone, and no new tenants have come forward,” he says.
