Isner says goodbye as the tennis player with the most aces and winner of the longest match in tennis history, in 2010 at Wimbledon

john isner fell this Thursday against michael mmoh in the second round of the US Open by blowing a two-set lead and losing in the tiebreaker of the fifth in the last game of his careerafter 17 years and more than 14,400 aces on the ATP circuit.

isner38, announced last week that he would retire from tennis after this US Open and fell 3-6, 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 and 7-6(7) against Mmoh after a four hour battle.

american tennis player wasted a match point with Mmoh serving at 5-4 on the scoreboard of the fifth set and ended up falling in the tiebreaker 10-7.

He received a heartfelt ovation from the Flushing Meadows Grand Stand track. “It’s hard,” he said isner with a voice broken by crying in the interview at the foot of the field. “I worked as hard as I could in my life, playing in environments like these. Playing in front of this audience today and having this support is very special, thank you“said the American.

Before saying goodbye definitively to tennis, Isner will play at least one other match, in doubles with Jack Sock. Isner, number 157 in the world and former number eight, retires from tennis with 16 titles in his record. Besides, it’s the tennis player with the most aces (more than 14,400) and also won the longest match of all time: a memorable battle of eleven hours and five minutes that took place in Wimbledon 2010 against the Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.
