35 years old and no end in sight: professional cyclist John Degenkolb has extended his contract for another year and will remain in the peloton until at least 2025.
Professional cyclist John Degenkolb is continuing his successful career for at least another season. The 35-year-old extended his contract with the DSM team until the end of 2025. This was announced by the racing team, to which the Thuringian native returned in 2022.
“When I returned after five years, we made a conscious decision to take on a new role. It’s fun to ride alongside such young athletes, share my experience and play a role in their development,” said Degenkolb. He draws motivation from last season, especially from his performance at Paris-Roubaix.
Degenkolb was in the top group for a long time last April in the cobblestone classic, which he won in 2015. It was only an unfortunate fall about 16 kilometers from the finish that slowed down the Tour de France stage winner. In the end, Degenkolb finished seventh.
