Johan Garpenlöv on defeat to Canada, father’s funeral

Sweden already led Canada 3-0 in the semi-finals, but eventually lost the match 3-4.

Head coach Johan Garpenlövin the time at the helm of Tre Kronor was a big disappointment, as Sweden did not win a single medal in a three-year period.

– I’m very disappointed. I would have liked the games to continue and we would fight for the final spot, Garpenlöv, who is leaving the national team, told Expressen.

Of course, the medal has always been the goal.

– I think we were worthy of a medal at the Olympics and here we were close.

Garpenlöv did not want to assess his own abilities as head coach.

– If you look at the results, we already know the answer. I’ve tried to get the best out of the players, but we haven’t won a medal. Self-assessment … others can do it.

There are much bigger things ahead of Garpenlöv in everyday life than hockey.

Next week are his Kjell-father’s funeral. His father died a few weeks before the World Cup.

– It’s going to be tough.

The matter has, of course, also been present at the World Cup.

– Of course it’s been tough. It’s something that came with me on this trip. It hasn’t disrupted my work in any way, but when you sit alone … then it comes to mind.

Garpenlöv adds that the funeral will provide the final decision, after which it will be easier to move on.
