Johan Derksen with colleagues back to RTL? ‘There is salary gain in it’

Johan Derksen and colleagues Wilfred Genee and René van der Gijp prove once again on the day of the failed mega merger in TV land how dependent John de Mol is on them. “RTL really wants them!”

John de Mol will be incredibly disappointed that permission has not been given for the sale of his company Talpa to the larger RTL. It was the perfect moment, because SBS 6 is in pretty good shape thanks to the enormous success of the daily talk show Today Inside. But what will be left of John’s media group when the VI trio leave?

VI is the cork

The VI trio Johan Derksen, René van der Gijp and Wilfred Genee was again extremely successful last night, on the day of the failed merger between RTL and Talpa. 944 thousand people (19 percent market share) watched their talk show. For comparison: Op1 had 694 thousand and Jinek 681 thousand.

TV expert Tina Nijkamp explains in the talk show Op1 that VI is the cork on which John’s channel floats. “SBS 6 had a slightly better year last year than the years before and that really only has to do with one thing and that is the men of VI, who scored very well, so that the market share was better.”

Back to RTL?

Now that the merger has failed, it wouldn’t surprise Tina if RTL tries to get the men from VI back. “For the men of VI, no merger is good news: RTL would also love to contract these men who mean GOLD for a channel’s market shares. And so John’s loss is the other’s salary gain.”

Yesterday’s score is really great, says Tina. “Normally, the program has around 750 to 850 thousand viewers. It’s the Eus effect: whenever Özcan Akyol is at the table, the program scores even higher than normal. I will investigate whether there is also a Bas Nijhuis effect.”

Veronica Offside

What about Veronica Offside, Wilfred Genee’s football talk show anyway? “After Friday’s beautiful 332 thousand viewers for Veronica Offside, it was equally exciting whether the viewing figures are indeed on the rise? No, unfortunately, yesterday back to square one with only 148 thousand viewers.”

The prime time winners were NPO 1’s De Slimste Mens (2.6 million and 45 percent), NPO 1’s Tussen Kunst en Kitsch (1.8 million and 35 percent) and Today Inside. RTL 4 attracted only 528 thousand viewers (9 percent) with De Perfecte Verbouwing.
