According to his own words, Johan had to apologize to Talpa on Thursday for the story he told in the broadcast on Tuesday. The future of the talk show would be decided on that basis. He said he penetrated an unconscious woman with a candle after a night out. His story caused a wave of outrage.
On Wednesday evening, Johan decided to come back to his statements. He let it be known that the story was different from what he had initially told. For example, he would not have actually penetrated the woman with a candle, but simply ‘put’ the candle between her legs.
Not waiting
Talpa – the parent company of SBS6 that broadcasts the program – said it was ‘very shocked’ by his statements and that he had to apologize. Johan said on Thursday that he did not want to wait for that. “Well, I’ll make that decision for that. I’m to blame for this and I’m quitting.”
Presenter Wilfred Genee thought that the program should stop completely, but according to Johan that is not necessary. He regrets his statements, but also wonders who he should apologize to. “I’ll take care of it, but to whom do I have to apologize”, Derksen wondered aloud in the broadcast. “I take all the blame. It was the wrong tone and the wrong story.”
In any case, Johan Derksen’s statements are not without consequences. The Public Prosecution Service announced on Thursday that they will start an investigation. “It is clear that this is highly disapproved of transgressive behavior,” said the Public Prosecution Service.
Talpa director Paul Römer says on Friday that he does not expect Derksen to return. “I’m not going to force him.”
On Friday afternoon, the message came that the program will stop completely and that old episodes of the Meiland family can be seen from Monday for the time being.
