Johan Derksen is waiting for sky-high viewing figures: ‘But Talpa refuses cake’

It looks like Johan Derksen will score a lot of viewers tonight with the relaunch of Today Inside, but according to former SBS 6 boss Tina Nijkamp, he does not have to count on cake.

Tonight it’s that time again: after a weeks-long absence due to the candle riot, Johan Derksen returns to television. It will come as no surprise to anyone if the ratings of Today Inside tonight are sky-high. The program was already the most watched talk show in the Netherlands and now undoubtedly hordes of curious viewers are added.

Towering viewing figures

Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, is counting on sky-high viewing figures for the relaunch of Today Inside. “Despite the beautiful weather, I think record figures: 1,665,000 viewers”, she guesses after looking at her crystal ball.

Actually, the men of VI deserve cake. “Behind the scenes at TV, a ratings success is ALWAYS celebrated with cake. And then with the name of the program on the cake. For years, every channel and broadcaster always had a whipped cream cake.”

no cake

There has been so much friction between the VI trio and the Talpa top in recent weeks that there is probably no cake this time, Tina expects. “No cake this time, but the coming broadcasts will have viewing figures that SBS 6 could only dream of in recent weeks. That whipped cream cake with logo will come again next season.”

Then of course there must be a next season. According to the AD the current season will be extended by at least two weeks. Actually, the series would end on June 3, but that will be June 17. Talpa bobo Marco Louwerens informs Shownieuws that this is the plan, but that it is not yet clear whether it will work.

‘Not done yet’

Wilfred Genee certainly wants to continue, he tells BNR. “Yes, absolutely. I had the feeling that it wasn’t finished yet. It’s been a rollercoaster of sorts the past few weeks with everything going on in front of and behind the scenes.”

It was quite the circus. “I can tell you first hand: even I couldn’t follow it at one point. At a certain point it had become very opaque in that regard.”

Today Inside

Today Inside, with guests Heleen van Royen and Roxane Knetemann, can be seen on SBS 6 at 9.30 pm.
