Joey Lelieveld (33) from Tilburg, once known as a DJ and music producer JoeySuki, has helped DJs through the corona crisis as a coach. “Artists could no longer perform and thus lost their great purpose. DJs came to sit at home en masse and often got into a negative spiral. I helped them to get out of this.”
Joey himself was a DJ for over ten years and traveled all over the world. His career as JoeySuki ended in 2014. The pressure and hectic pace became too much for him and he suffered a burnout.
During his own career, he lacked an independent coach to spar with and so he wanted to help other DJs.
“Top DJs were taken from their natural environment by corona. I noticed that it was difficult for them to switch from an artist life to life at home.” Top acts such as Blasterjaxx and Atmozfears knocked on his door.
Due to corona, DJs had to think about themselves. “Some wondered who they really were. You are lived as a successful artist and then there is little time to go back to basics.”
“Almost every artist lives for the performances, but there were none. Some had a hard time motivating themselves to be in the studio every day.” According to Joey, the uncertainty has made the scene even more creative and he’s glad he was able to contribute a bit to that.
