Joel Harkimo’s sailing is even heavier than workout, for the 2026 Golden Globe Race.

Joel Harkimo started a hard sailing contract on Sunday. He sails alone across the Atlantic.

Harkimo departed from Cascais of Portugal. The distance to the destination, the Antigua, is about 7,400 kilometers. It is estimated that the trip will last about 35 days, the Harkimo bulletin states.

The sailing trip is a workout for Harkimo. He wants his father Harry “Hjallis” Harkimon Like sail alone in the world all year round in the 2026 Golden Globe Race Sailing Competition.

Father Hankimo was on the spot to send his son on the trip.

– Of course it is excited when my own little boy leaves the sea alone. I remember when I left, so I was really nervous. However, he is well prepared and I believe he is doing very well, though of course he is still excited, Harry Harkimo said in the release.

Hjallis sailed solely around the world between 1986 and 1987.

The younger Harkimo himself was excited to leave.

– This project has been done for almost a couple of years now and now we are finally getting into it. Of course, the departure is exciting, but it is quite healthy and it is a matter, the sailor said in the release.
