In his speech, Trump refers to Peter Meijer, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives who voted to impeach the then president last year. Trump thought the politician’s last name, and in particular its spelling, was weird.
‘What stupid spelling is that, Meijer? May-er? It’s more like Mei-djer,” Trump says in English, emphasizing the last sound. “It’s Mei-djer, but you pronounce it as Meij-er. How on earth do you get Meij-er out of that?”
The Dutch Myjer, although his surname is spelled in a different way, could laugh about it. “Bucket list: Trump pissing off my last name,” he tweeted. The comedian ends his tweet with a green check mark emoji.
