‘Jocelyn’ travels across the Netherlands: tree on car and roof panels torn loose

Heavy wind gusts of 80-95 km/h will occur in the west and north on Wednesday morning, and around 75 km/h in the southeast. The wind gusts come from southwest directions. Traffic during the morning rush hour may be affected by this, the KNMI reports. The gusts of wind are associated with storm ‘Jocelyn’.

Rijkswaterstaat calls on road users to take gusts of wind into account. “Are you going out? Be alert and watch out for objects that could blow into the road. In strong winds, certain vehicles are extra vulnerable, such as empty trailers,” Rijkswaterstaat reports via X.

In the morning the wind will become westerly and decrease quickly in the southern half of the country. There the heavy gusts of wind disappear. In the north the wind will only decrease during the afternoon. For example, code yellow is in force in North Holland until 3 p.m. In Limburg, the scale will be scaled down to code green at 7 a.m.

The nuisance appears to be limited to a few fallen trees and torn loose roof material.

In Vlissingen and IJmuiden there was an average wind force of 9 during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. This officially constitutes a storm, making it the third storm of the year, Weeronline reports. Earlier this week, storm Isha passed through the country and on January 2 we had to deal with storm Henk. With storm Pia on December 21, this is already the fourth storm of the winter season.

Not only is there a storm, there are also heavy gusts of wind. The heaviest gust of wind was measured in Vlissingen at 99 kilometers per hour. A wind gust of 97 km per hour was measured at Schiphol. Meteorologists speak of an official storm if the average wind speed at at least one KNMI station over a full hour amounts to wind force 9.
