Joao Cancelo finds PSG ‘better in terms of individual talent’

At FC Bayern, winter newcomer Joao Cancelo made a cold start. The Portuguese has already made five appearances for the German record champions in around three weeks. The Manchester City loanee has now spoken in detail about the reasons for his move and Munich’s prospects in the Champions League.

When it was suggested at the end of January that FC Bayern would loan Joao Cancelo, many fans couldn’t believe their eyes. The full-back had been a regular in the world-class Manchester City team for years, and he was also considered one of star coach Pep Guardiola’s favorite students.

At the turn of the year, however, Cancelo ended up on the bench a few times, which immediately triggered the desire for a change of scenery in the World Cup participant.

“I think a player is always a bit selfish. Every player wants to feel important, wants to play. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. A competitive guy like me who wants to win titles just wants to play,” revealed Cancelo now in an interview with the sports newspaper “O Jogo”.

He had to accept the coach’s decision. “It’s like Pep said: I have to play to be happy. It’s not about belittling my team-mates. But I thought I deserved to play and he didn’t,” summarized the 28 -year-old the situation together.

However, he does not want to be seen as a stinker: “I have a difficult personality, yes, but I have never disrespected teammates or coaches.”

Does FC Bayern take the option to buy? Cancelo knows nothing

So far, Cancelo has felt very comfortable at Bayern Munich. The experienced national player praised the “discipline” of the German industry leader and described the “work in training” as “impressive”.

It is currently unclear whether he will stay in Munich beyond the summer. Although the Bundesliga club has a purchase option for around 70 million euros, according to sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, the club can hardly afford this.

“I don’t know if they will use it or not, but while I’m here I’ll do my best,” announced Cancelo.

Cancelo: PSG better than Bayern in terms of individual talent

First of all, the sporting success is in the foreground anyway. In the Bundesliga, FC Bayern lost a big lead in the new year, and everything is still open in the Champions League despite the 1-0 first-leg win at Paris Saint-Germain.

As a precaution, Cancelo warned against the French champions, who should take all the risks when they meet again in the Allianz Arena.

“In terms of individual talent, PSG is ultimately the best team in the world,” explained the full-back, who also made it clear that teams like ManCity, Bayern and Real Madrid could still keep up.
