Lewis Schouten lost with Young AZ on the snowy field in Almelo. The disappointment was evident on his face afterwards. Playing well, but still losing 2-0 to Heracles hurts. “We played really well for eighty minutes.”
“We wanted to do some kind of stunts here,” says Lewis Schouten in front of NH Sport’s camera. The Alkmaarder felt there was more to it, just missing the right final pass and creating opportunities. “We have this quite often and it’s quite frustrating.”
Fuses
Maarten Martens was also very pleased with his team’s football game. The trainer of Jong AZ was therefore very disappointed by the loss. Afterwards, it was also about the imminent departure of the Belgian coach. After two seasons, he will stop as coach of Young AZ this summer. “I want to look further and experience another development.”

Soon Martens will talk to AZ and see if there are any other options at the Alkmaar club. Technical director Max Huiberts has already announced that he would like to keep Martens for the club. The Belgian certainly wants to listen to that. “I am open to a lot at the moment and I feel very good at this club.”
Busy weeks
Then back to Schouten. The midfielder from Alkmaar is feeling good and playing a lot of matches these weeks. For example, last week he accompanied Pascal Jansen’s selection to Rome for the European confrontation with Lazio. Just before that, he was still in Barcelona on behalf of AZ for the Youth League. With Schouten in the base, the youth of AZ won that game 3-0. “I don’t really realize where I’ve been lately. You go from hotel to hotel.”

Recently, Schouten has increasingly been part of the selection of AZ 1. However, it has not yet come to a debut. “It’s starting to tickle and I hope I get a chance soon.” That might happen tonight, because then Schouten will be part of Pascal Jansen’s selection in the home game against FC Groningen.
