Jimmy Page turns 80: The Led Zeppelin guitarist’s career in pictures

To world fame with Led Zeppelin: The guitarist turns 80 today. A photo gallery of the best career moments.

James Patrick Page was born on January 9, 1944 in Heston, England. He found his first guitar in the previous tenant’s belongings left behind when his family moved to London. Nobody thought that it would develop into such a remarkable career. For his work as a studio musician and his contribution to Led Zeppelin, we recently awarded Jimmy Page 25th place in our list of the 100 best guitarists.

ME author Frank Thiessies argued with Page’s broad musical range: “As a guitarist and producer for Led Zeppelin, he later completed his musical visions, which are not limited to hard rock, but are also based on blues and folk, anticipating heavy metal or on Celtic to Far Eastern Walking tracks. For him, playing the strings with the cello bow or using the double neck are not guitarist ego gimmicks, but genuine stylistic devices.”
