Jimmy Cliff is back with a new album, Refugees

Jimmy Cliff releases his first album in 10 years. “Refugees” contains 13 songs and will be released on August 12th. The first single of the same name with Wyclef Jean can already be heard.

The issue of refugees is a personal one for Wyclef Jean. “In the beginning it wasn’t easy for me to come to America. Because we have family members who have been politically tormented, it was not without its problems for us,” said the founding member of the Fugees. Jimmy Cliff has always inspired him. “The collaboration on this record is exactly what we are: a plea for the forgotten”

Cliff stated that the album takes him in a different musical direction. “I will always try something new. Even if ‘refugees’ is a heavy title, people will move their feet because it’s made for the dance floor”

Song recorded with daughter

For the song “Racism” Cliff worked together with a daughter Lilty. “The song is just a story about musicians having fun together. I was just fooling around,” she recalled. Nevertheless, the song shows what the album is about: unity and tolerance.
