Jim (34) and Bettina (43) met fifteen years ago when they were together in Grease played. They not only fell for each other at the time, but then also drove a car off the stage into the orchestra pit and suffered minor injuries. In 2011, they got married. “Grease is the key to where we are today. It was the beginning of our life together and now we are a family richer,” says Bakkum. “We rarely do anything together on a professional level, but of course we couldn’t let this anniversary pass us by. We can’t wait,” adds Holwerda.
Earlier this year it was announced that the musical Grease coming back next year. It is not yet known who will play Danny and Sandy, but for the taste, producer Albert Verlinde has roped in the actor couple. “I brought them together in the musical at the time, with far-reaching consequences. I’m not just talking about their infamous fall into the orchestra pit. They fell in love, got married and now have three beautiful children. A love story with a happy ending. I’m really glad they said yes to this gig. It is unique to see them again as Danny and Sandy.”
The news comes a day after it was announced that Olivia Newton-John has passed away. She played Sandy in the original Grease-movie. According to a spokesperson, it is not yet clear whether her death will be commemorated during the Uitmarkt.
