The planned unveiling of ten new ones stolpersteine in the center of Coevorden, is cancelled. This is what the Coevorden Synagogue Foundation reports. Due to the war between Israel and Hamas, the organization believes it is currently wiser not to attract too much attention.
The stolpersteine, also called stumbling stones, are memorial stones with names of victims of the Holocaust. The stones would be placed in the sidewalk in front of the victims’ former home address in the presence of relatives.
That unveiling has now been postponed, reports Barend Faddegon on behalf of the museum on Kerkstraat. At the end of last week, Faddegon informed RTV Drenthe that the official unveiling would take place, but without giving too much publicity to it. “But we have now come back to that. We now think it would be wiser not to let this moment go ahead.” A planned lecture by Jan den Admirant in the old synagogue on Thursday, November 9, has also been cancelled.
