Jetta Klijnsma (66) can continue as commissioner of the King of Drenthe. She took the oath today for her reappointment. This happened in the presence of outgoing Minister Hugo de Jonge (CDA) of the Interior.
Klijnsma’s second term starts next month, when she has been in office as commissioner for six years. She can continue for more than three years, because a King’s Commissioner must stop when he reaches the age of 70.
Klijnsma was installed as commissioner of Drenthe on December 1, 2017. She succeeded Jozias van Aartsen, who had temporarily taken on the role after Jacques Tichelaar had to resign in March of that year due to an integrity issue.
In an explanation she says: “It is a privilege to be commissioner of the King of all Drenthe. I look forward to serving our beautiful province for a while longer. Thank you for the trust. I will go together with residents, the municipalities and the government continue to work.”
A year ago it emerged that Klijnsma wanted to continue as commissioner. The Provincial Council of Drenthe responded positively, after which the ministry further initiated the reappointment.
Klijnsma, born in Hoogeveen, previously sat in the House of Representatives for the PvdA and was State Secretary for Social Affairs and Employment in two cabinets.
