GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver has caused astonishment to comedian Henry van Loon during their joint performance in Jeroen Pauw’s talk show. “I can’t stand the fakeness.”
Jesse Klaver and Henry van Loon sat side by side in Jeroen Pauw’s talk show at the end of 2018. The comedian saw up close that politicians often play a role when the cameras are on. He has since been unable to watch a talk show normally. “No, I’m not looking at it, because it’s all bullshit.”
Jesse and Henry
It is unbearable for Henry that politicians are often so fake, he says in conversation with the newsmagazine Playboy† “I was once with Jinek (he means Pauw, ed.) to talk about my new show that was about my deceased mother. Jesse Klaver sat next to me with whom I had a nice chat before the program started.”
What was that conversation about? “His mother had also passed away, I told about my show, he thought it was beautiful. It wasn’t emotional or profound, just respectful and pleasant, person-to-person.”
‘Very very fake’
Everything changed when the cameras came on, Henry said. “But then the talk show started and he suddenly started talking completely differently: ‘It can’t be the case that we, as citizens, in the Netherlands, at the moment…’ Straight back, arms folded. I was looking at a completely different person.”
Very fakeHenry thinks. “You would say that as an actor I should understand that, but I really don’t understand that politicians present themselves as sincere and real. I can’t stand that fakeness.”
