Love and heartbreak.
When we are in love, happiness hormones are released.
Dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin rise in our brain when we fall in love and spend time with our partner, as a result we have a feeling of joy and pleasure.
Oxytocin, known as the “love hormone”, is released after various actions such as touching, biting, arousal, sexual intercourse, experiencing orgasms and skin-to-skin contact.
There is a chemical reason for the emotions we experience when a relationship ends.
After the breakup, it does not matter who made the decision or if we agree or not with the end of the relationship: the heartbreak hurts and the following days we feel things that we cannot fully understand, the desire to be close still arises, to write to him or her. or know about your ex.
Emotional grief usually develops in stages. The first is denial: the brain perceives a threat, the immune system weakens and cortisol levels (the hormone associated with stress) fall. At this stage, it is common for us to obsessively seek to return to that attachment and get angry with him/her or with ourselves.
The second stage is tranquility, which often rises above all that storm along with acceptance, resignation and sadness.
The third stage is already called reorganization, during which the brain returns to its normal state.
