Jerseys for FC Bayern women by Lena Gercke

The FC Bayern women get new jerseys. Model Lena Gercke (36) designed it, as the club announced on Monday in Munich. The footballers are scheduled to appear in the new kit for the first time in the game against Leipzig on March 17th. According to FC Bayern Munich, it is the first time in the club’s history that the women are playing in a jersey designed specifically for them.

The first “Germany’s Next Top Model” winner Gercke, who has her own fashion label called LeGer, said she was “proud and grateful to be part of this long overdue milestone”. Playmaker Linda Dallmann said: “This shows the growing importance of women’s football. It would be nice to see as many of our fans as possible wearing this jersey in the stadium soon.”

Bianca Rech, head of the women’s department at Bayern, sees a “central and emotional meaning” in the jersey and speaks of a “groundbreaking day in the history of FC Bayern Women.” The jersey is scheduled to be presented on March 8th, International Women’s Day. (dpa)
