Nothing is officially known about the contents, but the dump of dozens of barrels and jerry cans near a neighborhood park with playground in Assendelft does raise questions among local residents. That says chair Saskia Hille of the foundation that manages the neighborhood park against NH. “They were in the bushes, where no children play.”
The barrels had been dumped in the bushes between the neighborhood park and the dog run area. They were discovered around 6:15 this morning by a passerby, who reported the find to the police. Officers quickly arrived to investigate. They cordoned off the dump site and called in a specialized company to clean it up. That has already happened.
These types of dumping often involve waste from the production of hard drugs, but that is not yet certain. “What’s in it is a question we also have,” said a police spokesman. “We are currently investigating the contents of the barrels.”

It is said to be about sixty to a hundred barrels and jerry cans. According to chairman Hille, they could never have been there for long. “That is speculation of course, but we know so many people who come here that if they had been there longer we would have heard about it.”
Although it is not yet clear what is or was in the barrels, the chairman is pleased that the jerry cans were still closed. “Then the soil does not have to be remediated in any case.”

Due to its isolated location and the abundance of greenery around it, the business park where the neighborhood park is located is an attractive place for shady business, especially at night, says neighborhood park chairman Hille. She hopes that the imminent opening of the mosque on the site will provide more social control.
Earlier find in the Zaan region
At the beginning of this year, a similar find was reported in ‘t Twiske. There were dozens along the Lange Jap barrels, measuring cups and gas bottleswhich are also suspected of being used for drug production.
