Without a club since July
According to consistent media reports, Jérôme Boateng could return to FC Bayern Munich in the near future. Like first “Skywrote and later Fabrizio Romano and the “Kicker” confirmed that talks are taking place between the clubless central defender and the record champions. The now 35-year-old defender could start training on Sunday and is said to have already completed the first parts of the medical check. According to “Sky”, the club bosses have had the idea of a comeback for some time.

Two years after Bayern did not extend the 2014 world champion’s contract, they are now said to want to sign Boateng in order to strengthen the squad. With Matthijs de Ligt (24), Dayot Upamecano (24) and Min-jae Kim (26), there are three established central defenders in coach Thomas Tuchel’s squad. However, all three were missing from the 4-0 DFB Cup win against Preußen Münster during the week due to injuries, so midfielder Leon Goretzka (28) and full-back Noussair Mazraoui (25) had to help out in the defense center. Kim came from Naples in the summer for 50 million euros, but at the same time Lucas Hernández (27; PSG), Benjamin Pavard (27; Inter), Daley Blind (33; Girona) and Josip Stanisic (23; Leverkusen) left the club .

Bayern would not have to pay a transfer fee. Boateng is without a club. At Olympique Lyon, where he moved after his end with Munich, he did not get a new contract after last season.
Most recently, Boateng’s agent rejected reports that his client was said to have been in discussion with Real Madrid as a replacement for the injured David Alaba (31). “In his entire career, Jérôme has never personally offered himself to any club or even called the president, basically not. He has an advisor for that,” wrote Boateng’s player agent Tolga Dirican from “TDS Sports” on Friday on the X platform, formerly Twitter. According to the Catalan online newspaper “El Nacional”, there is “no truth” to the rumors.
Boateng moved from Manchester City to Bayern in the summer of 2011 after stints at youth club Hertha BSC and Hamburger SV and played there for ten years. Most recently, the ex-national player was a public topic instead of sporting headlines, primarily due to a court case. In mid-September, a verdict for bodily harm and insult was overturned by the Bavarian Supreme Court.
Before returning to FC Bayern: Court case against Boateng continues
It upheld Boateng’s appeal as well as that of the public prosecutor’s office and the co-plaintiff and referred the proceedings back to the Munich I Regional Court. Boateng’s lawyer Leonard Walischewski had called for the verdict from October last year to be overturned. “The process was shockingly unfair,” he said. “The defendant Boateng was already finally convicted before the appeal process had even begun.” At that time, the professional was fined 120 daily rates of 10,000 euros each in the second instance for assault and insult for attacking his ex-girlfriend on a Caribbean vacation been sentenced – a total of 1.2 million euros.

Boateng’s right to a fair trial was violated at the time, criticized lawyer Walischewski. “The presiding judge was not neutral, he was not distant,” he said. Above all, he criticized the fact that the judge was involved in rejecting an application for bias against himself. The chairman also emphasized that further evidence submitted by Boateng and his defense lawyers could have a negative impact on a punishment. The lawyer accused the judge of “unprocedural and arbitrary behavior.” “The chairman didn’t want to clarify.”
The now decisive request for bias came after the judge emphasized that further evidence from Boateng and his defense lawyers could have a negative impact on a sentence. Boateng was now “very relieved” after Thursday’s decision, said Walischewski, who immediately informed his client that the verdict had been overturned. “It is also clear that this was an important day for him too.”
However, not all of the decisions that day went in Boateng’s favor. The appeal court also upheld the appeal by the public prosecutor and Boateng’s ex-girlfriend, who is a co-plaintiff in the proceedings. The regional court “did not reconcile contradictory information,” explained the court spokesman. The public prosecutor and co-prosecution see the alleged attack as dangerous bodily harm because they assume that Boateng threw a cooler bag or a lantern in the direction of the defendant. If this is confirmed, the offense will change from assault to grievous bodily harm and may then result in a higher penalty.
