Jeroen Pauw thinks he has no chance this year when it comes to winning the Sonja Barend Award for best TV interview of the year. “My chances have dwindled because of Mariëlle Tweebeeke.”
The professional prize for the best TV interview of the year, the Sonja Barend Award, will be awarded again in two weeks. Eleven interviews are on the longlist, including that of Jeroen Pauw with Willibrord Fréquin. However, the presenter thinks that he has no chance at all because Mariëlle Tweebeeke has also been nominated.
Jeroen is afraid
Jeroen thinks the prize will go to Mariëlle this year. “Well, with Mariëlle Tweebeeke and Zelensky as competitors, my chances have dwindled quite a bit. I didn’t count myself rich,” he says in the VARAguide.
Other contenders include Catherine Keyl for her interview with Johnny de Mol and Özcan Akyol for his conversation with Herman Brusselmans. The whole long list can be found here.
To Ukraine
Mariëlle’s interview with Ukrainian President Zelensky was striking, partly because he became a bit irritated at one point. He is still the president of a country at war.
Jeroen recently traveled to Ukraine for a program that will be broadcasted next Wednesday on NPO 1, namely Jeroen Pauw in Ukraine. In it he shows what happens to the money that is donated to that country. “It’s the sixth time I’ve traveled after a fundraiser to answer to viewers.”
Many buildings destroyed
What did Jeroen find in Ukraine? “Many buildings are broken and landmines have to be cleared. The Refugee Foundation supports this so that the fields can be sown and harvested again. In Kharkiv, residents live criss-cross in the metro, without any form of privacy.”
He continues: “The money is used to provide tents so that they have their own place. But also think about warm clothes and cash, because Ukrainians know best what they need. Unlike in third world countries, much works well here. Cafes are open, as are restaurants.”
