Jeroen Pauw does not rule out RTL 4 talk show: possible game changer

A potential game changer in talk show land: Jeroen Pauw does not rule out succeeding Eva Jinek on the late evening of RTL 4. “I have worked there before, so I am very independent.”

Eva Jinek returns to the public broadcaster after four years at RTL 4, which means that the channel is left with three talk show presenters who are more in the entertainment corner: Beau van Erven Dorens, Humberto Tan and Renze Klamer. The late evening of the commercial channel inevitably becomes a lot lighter in tone.

Peacock is open

Should RTL 4 want to go in this direction? Is the viewer waiting for Beau to paint his nails live on TV? On Renze who discusses the dating show B&B Vol Liefde night after night? Isn’t one done with this kind of lightness?

Jeroen Pauw could just save things. When asked if he would like to succeed Eva, he replies RTL Boulevard: “If I had that thought, I wouldn’t share it with you and if I didn’t have it at all, I wouldn’t be here either, because I like to do things in front of the television every now and then.”

‘Fun at RTL’

Jeroen is still interested in television work. “Now that is with the public broadcaster and I do it with great pleasure. I worked at RTL, also with great pleasure, so I am very independent.”

What?! Is this just an overt flirtation? Bridget Maasland is shocked: “I have an idea that this is already a bit further than a kind of open application. Would Jeroen Pauw just come back to RTL?”

Lex Uiting, pointing to Jeroen’s past at RTL: “But with Loretta Schrijver, I hope, or Vivian Boelen.”

Two hats

TV connoisseur Rob Goossens finds it striking. “Of course it would be interesting. Jeroen naturally has two hats, namely that of presenter and producer. In the second role, he is also very interesting in this development, because there are actually only three production companies in the Netherlands that can make talk shows at all.”

He continues: “That is Blue Circle, the company that also makes RTL Boulevard, that is TVBV, of which Jeroen Pauw is the founder, and the third is PilotStudio by Ewart van der Horst, which now also makes Jinek. (…) It seems a bit like he is very elated and cannot tell everything.”

Game changer

Many talk show stars complain about the workload, but that certainly doesn’t bother Jeroen: “A talk show asks a lot of you. I’ve never found it that hard. I also didn’t have to take children to school, so that also makes a big difference.”

If Jeroen gets a talk show on RTL 4, that would be a potential game changer: he can decimate competitor Op1. But how desirable is that? He is also involved with TVBV in the production of Op1. Bridget: “Of course it’s also nice if you have your finger in the pie everywhere, isn’t it?”

Rob: “And in the meantime, I secretly hope that Jeroen will just sit on the box again.”
