With his arrival, Jeroen Pauw is changing course at Khalid & Sophie. The talk show will have a new name, Jeroen & Sophie, ‘but the content of the program will also change’.
The shady presenter Khalid Kasem has been kicked out of Khalid & Sophie. Jeroen & Sophie will start after the weekend, because Jeroen Pauw will take over his pupil’s spot. Will the content of the program also change? Well-known TV critic Victor Vlam thinks so, he says in the podcast The Communicados.
Different tone
Victor expects NPO 1’s seven-hour talk show to take on a different tone. “Yes, I think so, to be honest. It is of course a program that has received a lot of criticism because it was activist-left. Jeroen Pauw is not originally a typical VARA journalist.”
Jeroen did work at VARA. “But he has of course been employed at RTL for a long time and has also presented Pauw & Witteman. He originally did that on behalf of NTR, because it was a collaboration between VARA and NTR and he was the NTR presenter, so he comes from a journalistic school that considers neutrality important.”
Peacock’s image
Jeroen finds impartiality important, according to Victor. “That is an image that he has always managed to uphold. I can’t imagine that he’s going to ruin that reputation for a four-month stint, so I suspect it will indeed take a slightly different course and that’s how it often goes on talk shows.”
Talk shows are personality driven, Victor explains. “They depend on the presenter. Jeroen is really a different man, a different talk show host than Khalid Kasem, so it makes sense that it will also take a different course.”
