The bus driver and former football coach of Cercle Brugge, among others, saved the sixteen passengers from his scheduled bus on November 29 last year. That bus suddenly stopped on the train tracks in Veldegem, near Zedelgem. Most passengers were children on their way to school. Tipuric managed to get everyone from the bus a few minutes before a train would pass by.
Tipuric received a medal and diploma in the presence of his family and was emotional and proud. He will also be congratulated by King Filip on July 21 during the national holiday. The governor was also impressed by Tipuric ‘heroic act. “If you look at the images of that day, that leaves no one untouched. A disaster has been avoided.”
