Jeremie Vaneeckhout and Nadia Naji new chairman duo Groen

In the first round of voting, the duo already obtained a majority of the party’s members, 57%. A second round of voting was therefore not necessary.

‘The green story is also one of tackling inequality and ensuring the well-being of all people: we want to focus on that even more than today’, is the first reaction.

Thirties from Anzegem and Molenbeek

Vaneeckhout, 37, father of three young daughters and from Anzegem, has many years of experience in the party. He makes it a point of contention to once again focus on the well-being of all people. ‘Well-being and health, that is one hundred percent green. The mental well-being of our young people, the crisis in education and childcare: these are matters that many parents and me are concerned about.’

Naji, 30 years old and from Molenbeek, wants to bring punch and innovation to the party. As a female party chairperson with an ethnic-culturally diverse background, she also wants to express the voice of women and minority groups. ‘Inequality is the greatest injustice in our society and the climate crisis is pre-eminently an inequality crisis. Besides global warming, the fight against racism and poverty is my main motivation to get involved. I already did that as a volunteer in the homework class and I now want to continue that commitment at the highest political level.

Vice President from 2014 to 2019

Vaneeckhout was already vice-chairman from 2014 to 2019, then in duo with Myerem Almaci. He was also alderman in Anzegem for the local party Inzet, but he gave up that to focus entirely on his seat in the Flemish Parliament. There he sits on the agriculture and youth committees.
