Jenning de Boo third after the first day of the World Sprint Championships, Kjeld Nuis fourth

Jenning de Boo is in third place after the first day of the World Sprint Championships in Inzell. The 20-year-old from Groningen was a fraction faster in the 1000 meters in a direct duel with classification leader Laurent Dubreuil from Canada and finished fourth in 1.08.28. The 1000 meters was won by Zhongyan Ning from China in 1.07.67. Dubreuil remains first in the rankings.

Kjeld Nuis finished third in the 1000 meters with 1.07.90. The 34-year-old South Hollander was 0.23 seconds slower than Ning. He takes fourth place in the rankings after two distances.

Joep Wennemars crashed in the second corner and finished well behind. The 21-year-old debutant therefore has no chance in the rankings.

Dubreuil has a tiny lead of 0.03 seconds over the Chinese Ning for the second 500 meters in the rankings. De Boo is behind this, 0.17 seconds behind the Canadian. Nuis, who also had to beat the Belgian Mathias Vosté in the 1000 meters with 1.07.85, follows 0.29 seconds in the rankings.
