World champion Spain dispenses with his best-known player at the European Women’s European Championship. This now takes out – and attacks her national coach.

At the latest since the kiss scandal at the 2023 World Cup, Spaniard Jennifer Hermoso has been one of the world’s best known footballers. Now her country’s 35-year-old record goalkeeper has not been nominated for the European Championship in Switzerland. The Spanish national coach Montserrat Tomé ceded sporting reasons.

“As with other players, we evaluated their achievements at their club and we spoke to their trainer. There is great competition in their position. I think we did a very professional analysis,” said Tomé at the Spanish radio station “Cadena Ser”.

Hermoso, which is under contract with the Mexican Club Tigres, apparently displeased the statement that it attacked the Spanish team. On Wednesday she wrote on the platform X: “I have a clear conscience – all the more when I stay away from an environment with such negative energy.”

But that’s not all. Hermoso accused coach Tomé a lack of communication: “I tweet because it is the only way to have a conversation.” According to the Hermoso, Tomé should concentrate on making Spain a European champion, “although (the team, editor’s note) could also do that alone and probably much better.”

In the program “El Partidazo de Cope”, the Spanish ex-goalkeeper Santiago Cañizares has now commented on the dispute of the two. “Montse Tomé can add to the national team who she wants. And if she doesn’t nominate Jenni Hermoso, then because she believes that there are other, better players.”

Cañizares became clear: “Jenni Hermosos lack of respect for the national coaches is unbearable.” The statement that Spain could also get the European Championship title without Tomé is a no-go for the 55-year-old: “I don’t think I’ve heard of anything like that from anyone, especially not by an athlete.”

Hermoso won the World Cup title with Spain in Australia in 2023. At the subsequent award ceremony, she kissed the then Spanish association president Luis Rubiales. Hermoso filed a criminal complaint against the official. In February of this year, a Spanish court guilty of sexual aggression. The disciplinary commission of the World Association FIFA had already banned Rubiales in October 2023 with a three -year job ban in football.

Shortly after the kiss scandal became known, the striker of Tomé was painted out of the national team’s squad. The official reason at the time was to protect Hermoso. She was back at the 2024 Olympic Games. The trainer then announced that he wanted to build a new team.
