Jenni Pouramo, 20, said goodbye to his fiancé in Helsinki last autumn and headed to Panama as an au pair. Jenni is one of the main characters in the new season of Yle’s hit series.

In Panama, a Ukrainian mother was waiting for Jenni Maryna and the French father Maxence and their three little children. A Nicaraguan housekeeper also works in the family Rose.

There were no major cultural differences between the family and Jenn.

– If someone excited me, it would be that we would have had completely different values. If they hadn’t even accepted my short hair or otherwise accepted people as they are, Jenni says.

The worry was futile. Jenni spent time with other au pairs, but the family also became close to her.

– We stayed really good. The family was really wonderful. Maryna was kind of like me, almost like the best guy. We had a really close relationship. We really talked a lot about everything. The kids also liked me a lot, Jenni says.

Jenni knows she will be meeting her au pair family in the future.

Jenni says that already in December she discussed with the Ukrainian Maryna the tense situation in Russia and Ukraine.

– When Maryna’s grandparents came to visit, I realized already in December that the situation was such that the airports were being closed. The situation was not good, Jenni says.

Although Jenni and Maryna are in regular contact, Jenni balances how often she bothers to ask her mother au pair about the situation. Maryna’s mother has gotten to Panama, but her father and other relatives are still in Ukraine.

– I know that his relatives ask him a lot if his father is safe and how he is doing. However, we talk a lot together about the situation in Ukraine, Jenni says.

However, Jenni may also have been helpful to the family.

– I helped Maryna’s cousin get from Ukraine to Slovakia.
